'Grey's Anatomy' Return Has Been Delayed

Fans will have to wait a little bit longer to learn Meredith Grey's fate on Grey's Anatomy.

On Monday (January 25), ABC announced Grey's Anatomy return from its mid-season hiatus has been delayed. The 17th season of the medical drama was originally slated to return March 4, however, it's now slated to be back on the air by Thursday, March 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

While the return of Grey's Anatomy is, thankfully, delayed just one week, fans were left with a major cliffhanger before the show went on hiatus. Meredith has been battling COVID-19 for the majority of the 17th season and, as of the mid-season finale, things were not looking good for the titular character.

Executive producer Meg Marinis spoke about Meredith's sire situation with Entertainment Tonight, reminding viewers that COVID-19 can be deadly even for young, healthy people like Meredith. "No one can predict how the disease will go in a healthy person or an older person. There's no consistency to it," she said. "And Meredith Grey is as a young, healthy person, healthy doctor. The fact that it's gotten this far, it's super scary for all of us, as fans and also people living with this. There's an urgency because it's COVID."
