Men Should Stop Drinking 6 Months Before Conception To Protect Baby

If dads want to do everything possible to help their baby, they should stop drinking long before the child has been conceived.

A new study suggests that men should not drink 6 months prior to a baby's conception in order to decrease the likelihood of congenital heart defects in the child.

Fathers who drank 3 months prior to conception were 44 percent more likely to have babies with heart defects. Binge drinking men were 52 percent more likely to have children with congenital heart disease.

  • The study says men should not drink 6 months before conception and women shouldn't drink a year before getting pregnant in order to lower the baby's heart risks.
